Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

Hello

I also developed tinnitus after my lower left implant got infected. The dentist clinic who implanted them things its not related, but I am absolutely sure that this is the cause. I had some surgery to clear the infection but so far the tinnitus is still present. Has anyone else had a similar experiance and removed the impla? I wonder if the removal of the implants would stop the tinnitus symptoms or will they just stay?

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

I recently had a dental implant placed on the top left.  I immediately started having inner ear problems, tinnitus and significant hearing loss.  My dentist said the bone was very hard.  He used the term "tapping" but I think "hammering" is more accurate.  My ENT says the hearing loss could not have come from the placement of the implant.  I do not buy this.  While I do believe I could have some hearing loss due to my age of 60, it is nothing that I ever noticed.  I can't hold the phone to my left ear and hear clearly.  I am hoping it will all improve with time.  After about 3 weeks, and two rounds of antibiotics, I developed such a severe infection that I had to have an I & D and have the implant removed.  I am now on another antibiotic and I am very concerned this is not the end of the infection.  This is not my first implant but it will likely by my last.  I have two successful ones and now four failed ones.  Not such a great success with me.

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

I too had a large bridge installed on the upper left side and have left ear tinnitus. Please look into BIOLOGIC WIDTH and see if it applies to you. If the implant, cap, or bridge is to close to the bone structure you can get tinnitus. THe gums in that area will swell and push on the nerves, you my also have the feeling of a mild toothache. Sinus problem may also be there.

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

Hi all,

I write in response to Welshtaffy's posts about the question....."Could Tinnitus be a direct result from having had Implants"? Well, having had a similar experience, my resounding answer is a defiant YES!

I had a bone graph and three Implants in my top left Jaw last year, and although I'd taken a course of antibiotics, I suffered from a sinus infection several weeks later, which resulted in ongoing breathing difficulties, especially at night. I tried everything from Nasal Douches and sprays, Hay fever tablets, Vicks inhalers as well as the "towel over the head and bowl of hot water trick", all giving little relief.

It was some months after having the Implants that I first noticed the Tinnitus, but had not connect the two until now. As far as Thomas saying..."there's no proof of tinnitus being directly caused by having Implants! Well, for me..I'll put my money on Welshtaffy's first instinct. I say this because my breathing difficulties, as well as any signs of Tinnitus, had vanished after undergoing an operation to clear my sinuses before further treatment a few months ago.

Since having had my dental work completed, I've had six visits to the ENT specialist for after operation check up and cleaning of nose and sinus. The last visit being about three weeks ago, and guess what? The sinus infection (resulting in a seemingly blocked nose, and difficulty to breath at night) as well as Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) have returned.

Bugger! What to do now?

Thank you for listening,

Simmo

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

Hello Thomas,

As I'd given supportive evidence of my tinnitus being a direct result from having had implants, was hoping you might of added your thoughts on it.

Reading several posts from people who have come to the same conclusion, would suggest there might be something in it....certainly worth looking into.

But what to do to fix it? In my case, I believe it's caused by an ongoing infection in my sinus. Antiboics seem to work for a few weeks, before my sinus is blocked up agin, and tinitus returns...strange.

Bit like me perhaps?

Thank you,
Peter

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

Hi Edward,
Thank you for your thoughts, I have constant ringing in my ears as I write this.(sounds like a bunch of insects in the bush at night) very irritating. At the age of 60, it might just be another part of the old body breaking down, and although I haven't got very far with doctors by complaining about my achs and pains, I now think I should give a Tinnitus hearing centre a go, and learn what they say about it.

Thank you,
Peter

Re: tinnitus - tooth implant!

Lately I've begun to think that my tinnitus is dental related as well.  In my case, possibly due to one or both top molar(s) that have dropped and tilted because the lower molars directly below them were pulled many years ago.  Just a theory.  I've had tinnitus for 3-1/2 years and have pretty much eliminated everything else I can think of that may be causing it.
