Biologic width & Tinntius

Since my last post I've had sinus surgery, and still have T. Sinuses don't seem to be the problem. Now that my  sinuses are clearing up I notice that my left upper rear tooth hurts, or I should say its my gum that hurts.

Over two years ago I had a large bridge put on the rear upper left. It ends on the last tooth which is also root canal. When this bridge was put on I complained it was to thight and that the bite was off. The dentist made the addjustments and that was it. Three months later is when my T started. Over the two years I have complained of pain it this area of my mouth but the dentist insist there is nothing wrong. Been to TMD & Dental surgeon and both have stated the same, nothing wrong with the bridge. It must be my sinuses. Wrong!

Being the person I am I will not take no from a doctor when I know I'm in pain. I went to my periodontist and told him to take a good look. He found the gums around the rear tooth of the bridge were swollen and bleeding . This made him take several x-rays from different angles on that one tooth. What he found was the bridge was to close to the upper jaw bone (biologic width).

When I asked him if this could be causing my tinnitus his reply was yes. We're going to work on that area now to try and remove the pain. Surgery if need, last resort is to remove the bridge and the tooth.

Time will tell if this will resolve my T but if it doesn't at least I won't have the pain from the bridge.

Re: Biologic width & Tinntius

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the update.

I reckon it is a bit disappointing for you that the tinnitus doesn't show any change after the sinus surgery, but at least you have the peace of mind now to have eliminated one possible cause. Of course, any health problems you should try to have fixed for their own sake, so you should sort out the bridge problems as well. If the tinnitus is improved by this, then all the better, but don't necessarily bank on it

Re: Biologic width & Tinntius

Thomas I don't know what I have. Sometimes it sounds and acts like tinnitus and other times it feels more like pain. Its been over two years of searching to resolve my issues. I've seen over a dozen doctors and dentists, have had many MRI's and x-rays. I don't understand why the doctors are not able to see the most obvious medical problems. After two years and three ENT's it took my investigating to show them that I had an on going sinus infection. Drugs would not clear up my sinuses. I just had the sinus surgery three weeks ago and I'm still swollen up a bit. I will say this, when I came to in recovery I had no tinntius or pain. That must mean something, since the only other time I experienced this was when I had my back surgery last year for pinched nerves. As for my bridge, I've been complaining about it since it was installed two years ago. It was only discovered this past week that the bridge might be to close to the bone which can cause BIOLOGIC WIDTH pain. The swelling of the gum can react with the nerves around the mouth and ears. Tinnitus is a possible side effect.

Here is some advice to other members. No one is going to look after your interest better then you. Don't let doctors brush you off and tell you to live with tinnitus. Better still instead of telling doctors that your ears ring or buzz tell them they hurt. Make them be a dotor for once instead of just looking at MRI's & X-rays.

I still have some sort of what ever going on with me but at least I'm still here. Life is great even with my problems. There is a lot of advice here that worked and still works for me. Best one is to take a pain killer when tinnitus gets to loud.

To all of you that suffer day in & out please take it one day at a time. Things do get better over time. Your problem may be permanent but you will adjust, the sooner you get on with your live the quicker it will come.

Re: Biologic width & Tinntius

Hello Again! I´m afraid I not only still have Tinnitus but as time has passed, it has become much louder. It is not a tone but a piercing swishing sound. It never goes away. Not for a minute. When I think of others with a similar problem but with a pulsating tone I feel so very sorry for them as that must be much worse than what I have.Regarding the connection to my two top left implants, nobody seems to take that possibility seriously although I am as convinced  as I could be.I was planning of taking the implants out but I believe in doing so would not stop the noise. But what do I know? I cannot imagine not having this continuing noise in my left ear! It feels as though I've always had it! By the way, I am a composer and work alone in my studio. It is homecoming a problem balancing sounds left and right. The only advice I can give is accept it and try when possible to ignore it.
Best wishes to you all.

Re: Biologic width & Tinntius

Update, Early this morning I woke up to my head feeling heavy with a buzzing feeling. My tooth under my bridge wasl painfull or should I say my gums around that tooth was painfull. I pushed into my gums and slid my fingernail around my tooth just under the bridge. Just to remind you that tooth is root canal. A sudden sensation of relief was felt going down the back of my head and neck. The sound went down also but soon came back. I'll describe it as having a plugged ear that all of a sudden clears, the feeling of relief. The BIOLOGIC WIDTH caused by the bridge being to large for the tooth gives me hope the tinnitus will clear up. I'll be going for my first treatment this Saturday to see if we can correct it. If this procedure doesn't work I'll need to remove the bridge and tooth.

Fingers crossed.
