Hi, I am very new to this forum. Off lately I have been hearing a buzzing sound in my ears, even when it's quiet outside. I have no Idea what caused it. I listen to a lot of music using my headphones. Could that be the reason? I spoke to an audiologist from Hearing Solutions and took an appointment there. What I am worried about is, would this lead to hearing loss? Will it help, if I stop using headphones. Is this Tinnitus?

Hi Melissa,
Welcome to the forum.
Yes, it could be the headphones, so I would recommend avoiding those completely for while. If they are in-ear headphones or closed headphones I would stop using them altogether (they caused my tinnitus as well). Listen to music over speakers only and at low volume.
You don't have to be worried about hearing loss. It is just that your hearing system has become unbalanced somewhat (possibly by the headphone use) and produces now this buzzing sound to compensate for it.
By all means avoid any caffeine, alcohol or other nerve stimulants for the time being, as this would make it worse. Additionally, take some Vitamin B12 tablets for a while may help the hearing system to get back into balance again.
Don't necessarily expect a quick solution for this though. It may disappear again in a couple of weeks, it may also take months. Just take it from day to day at the moment, and remember this is just a harmless nervous condition and not a serious illness, and it will eventually get better.

Hi Thomas,
Thank you so much for taking your time to reply. And all the information that you provided were very helpful. Yes I use in-ear phones, and I am going to stop using it for a while. Thanks again!
