So I've had tinnitus for a little over 6 months now. During this time it hasn't become any easier to deal with. I already had a host of problems before developing this "symptom" which adds to the list. Honestly, I feel like I'm at my breaking point and I'm not sure what to do. I've considered taking anti-anxiety meds after reading some people have found relief taking them. The thing is, I've also read most of these are toxic to the ear. This makes me reluctant to try them. I'm at a loss for what to do. I could really use some help here.

Hi Excel,
Welcome to the forum.
Most drugs are classed as potentially ototoxic. This doesn't mean that they actually are if taken as prescribed. Anti-anxiety drugs like Xanax have proved to be beneficial for many tinnitus sufferers if taken for a short time (in the long term they are very addictive, so you should not take them for more than a few weeks).
Having said this, if you can find other means to improve the problem, this would of course be very much preferable. For instance, avoiding any caffeine and alcohol often helps already to lessen the problem. I also found out by chance that small doses of simple painkillers like Paracetamol (Tylenol in the U.S) or Aspirin can improve my tinnitus both in the short and long term, also alcohol-free beer. There are potentially many other measures that could improve the condition, depending on your personal circumstances. You just have to use your own experiences and take them consequently into consideration.
