Re: My tinnitus and hyperacusis journey

Eilleor,

I know it is difficult to stay positive in these bad periods, but you have to be patient and not expect an improvement in a few days or even a couple of weeks. It may again be a matter of months, but you should not be thinking of how long it may be. Take everything from day to day at the moment, and just try to adjust your life so that you can reasonably manage throughout the day (and night). You have to make it your goal to improve the tinnitus, but you also have to learn to arrange yourself with it for a while. Yes, it may be a a nuisance at the moment, but you have to try to 'work around' it in your daily life. Don't attach so much importance to the fact that it is difficult for you at the moment to do certain things in life that you were used to do. The tinnitus should have priority for you at the moment, so if playing guitar or leading long phone calls aggravates your tinnitus/hyperacusis, then don't do it, or do it only for a shorter period, or maybe using some musicians earplugs (which filter out the worst frequencies). You have to work with the tinnitus, not against it, then it will eventually improve.

Re: My tinnitus and hyperacusis journey

Eilleor,

What I also would like to mention: you should eliminate any high pitched electrical motor noises, for instance in your household. For me, my electrical shaver aggravated my tinnitus very much in the first few weeks, before I stopped using it and started shaving by hand. Also my hoover aggravated my tinnitus and I had to use ear plugs whilst using it.
You should avoid avoid any constant high pitched noises (like from electrical motors), even if you use them only 5 minutes a day. Either stop sing them altogether or use ear-plugs (if possible)

Re: My tinnitus and hyperacusis journey

Thomas, txs again for your advise.
I am doing a little bit better, at least my H is calmed a bit and because of a foot injury my focus is less on my T, but it is still bad, but I think I am beginning to accept the increased volume.....fighting it does not work indeed...BUT I HATE IT....
I agree about electrical devises, also outside, almost everybody is using electrical leaf blowers this time of the year...and the worse time in Holland is upcoming: free firework on the street, boys playing with it and frightening older people and T H fear hares like me.
Regards

Re: My tinnitus and hyperacusis journey

Eilleor,

Don't worry, the volume will eventually decrease again. It is just a matter of time. Like it is a matter of time before a broken leg heals. Only that it can take a lot longer. In the meanwhile, you have to try to cope with it and make the best out of the situation, trying to adjust your life to keep the volume as low as possible (also with regards to food and drinks). With the fireworks, always carry ear plugs with you in the next few weeks and use them if you come into situations where there are likely some fireworks to go off.
