Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Eilleor,

I know it is tough but you have to go through the next few days and weeks. Just take it one day at a time at the moment. If you feel that you absolutely can't cope with it, ask your doctor to prescribe you some tranquilizers against your anxiety for a couple of weeks. This should help to get through this difficult period.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Hello Thomas,
Again txs for your advices. It is a little bit better now, I took some paracetamols and went outside to walk, sometimes when I was afraid of loud noise I used my earplugs, but only for a short time, because I know I should not do that too often.
It is still not good, but I dare to hope again for better days.
Regards,

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Eilleor,

It is perfectly OK to use earplugs if you feel safer with them. It wouldn't be good to use them all the time, but the aggravation caused by the anxiety when not using them in certain situations could be even worse. Just handle it the way it works best for you. I always carried some ear plugs with me, and then inserted them when some noise became too disturbing.

The important thing for you at the moment is to try to gain some control again over the tinnitus, even if it is only a small amount. Whether it is ear plugs, painkillers or anything else, you have to be a bit pro-active to achieve this. Passivity and just waiting won't do you any good. On the other hand, panic reactions and too much activity aren't any good either. Again, the first rule is to try to stay in control, and not let the situation derail you. It may be easier said than done (especially as it can be very different for everybody) but you will soon learn from experience what works best for you.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Thank you Thomas !
I try not to focus to much..
For me it seems that the hyperacusis is getting worse, or is that also something in my mind and not measurable? Is there anything to say about which is normal to decrease first: hyperacusis or tinnitus?

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

The hyperacusis should decrease first. In my case it lasted only 1-2 months. It is just a matter of how fast your nervous system adjusts to the changed conditions.

In any case, don't attach too much importance to the smallest details you can hear. Some changes on a daily basis are only natural as the nervous activity (and thus your tinnitus) depends strongly on your body chemistry, which is affected by many factors like nutrition, hormone levels, stress etc.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

In my case it is so hard to forget about it, because eating etc is such an terrible noise and when I am busy with something, I tried to listen music in the background, after that my ringing is always worse altough I do not think about it because I was busy.
My tinnitus always reacts on sounds and get worse, when I asked my audiologist, he did not say anything about it.
It is so difficult to find a balance which and how much and how loud sounds to allow....
I tried from time to time to play my guitar, but it is not possible.
How can you forget about the noise and ringing and sensitivity when it is always there and rather overwhelming.
Sorry to complain again, I have to be strong....but living in a noisy apartment with a guy living in the apartment above me who loves house music and has a lot of noisy friends is no fun now.
Thanks for your understanding.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Another tip:

drinking alcohol-free beer may reduce the intensity of the tinnitus (at least it usually worked well for me in the past, and others have reported some effects as well). You don't need to drink much, just a bottle or two every couple of days should be enough.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Txs, I will try it out, alltough I am not a beer lover...I also never drink anything with gaz in it....but every tip is welcome.

I  am doing a little better now, I even could play my guitar for 10 minutes before T started to react! I also start to learn that even very bad days can be followed  by better days. This can help to fight the fear.
I wish all sufferer's like me a lot of good days, hours and minutes and try to save the good times in your head to think about in bad times.

Re: Tinnitus loud noise

Still difficult, but try to handle everything. I had a set back after my grandfather died last week. It was a little bit better Yesterday, but this morning I woke up with a severe hearing loss on my good non tinnitus ear ... I hear only reactions as my tinnitus ear used to do on soft noises for the rest nothing I really freaking out, anybody recognise this?
