Re: Help Please

Thank you for your help. I went to a wedding in which I was a bridesmaid Friday night and since the disco I've had such bad ringing in my right ear that I can hardly hear anything out of it. What can I do and how long will this last? sad things just seem to be getting worse, not better for me

Re: Help Please

Not so good all!!  I can only tell you me experience so far after 8 months.  As a general rule from what I have read you can expect a rough time for the first two to three months.  I had to go through over 3 months before I could feel any sense of hope going forward.  As has frequently been said here it does get better slowly.  Patience and persistence are both needed to get you through.  For now you should avoid situations where you will be subjected to loud noises.  I have gone on to Tinnitus retraining therapy with hearing aids.  This allows me now to be in a noisier environment and be able to survive it.

You should work through the medical system and make sure they do not leave you stranded.

Is this the earliest possible appointment???
Follow up on all bookings and referrals to make sure they have it on the other end.  I wasted months waiting for multiple call back for things that were lost in the middle.  If someone says "Your have tinnitus and will have to live with it"  move on.  They don't care and can't help you because they don't know what to do.

Ask pointed questions on the board and see what you can get back.

Any other things you need I will try to give you back and answer with what I have to far.  Thomas is great and is an excellent moderator.

Re: Help Please

I downloaded that app and its brilliant. Thank you so much. Really helps at bedtime. It's helping my stress levels when it comes to sleep. I am also taking kalms herbal relief. It is helping a bit, but at the moment, background noise is my friend. Even watching my tv is difficult as it does and has always given off a high pitched noise that I've always been as to hear but is being made worse when it comes to watching it. I find any tv though is difficult to concentrate on. My ears are just so sensitive at the moment. I went back to my dr yesterday as I finished my antibiotics and still no change and he still thinks its just congestion causing it as my ears won't pop under pressure to get rid of the pressure feeling I sometimes have. Caused by the tubes in my ear becoming gunky and sticky. He's prescribed me some decongestant spray. I still live in hope that this is just a temporary thing and it will get better/disappear when my ears are clear

Re: Help Please

I'm really pleased it helped.  The paid APP has additional bio tones in the back ground that really seem to help knock me out at night.

For the TV watching try a low level white noise in the background, from the sound device/smart phone.  You can try playing with different mixes.  I use this in my hearing aids and it has helped in restaurants and such.  It seems to create a sound dome that stops your ears from the direct impact of a sound.  Sort of like they are all setup for the impact and can take it better.  Just make sure the volume is not excessive.  It's like a sound saran wrap for the ears.

Re: Help Please

Thank you Jim. The nasal spray the doctor gave me did briefly fix the ringing. I even had 2 nights with no music or fan!! But the downfall was that I could only use it for 7 days then had to stop, so the congestion - and ringing is back sad don't know what else to do as its not clearing it. I can't take decongestant tabs as doc said they don't mix well with anti depressants - which I am on because of anxiety, mainly caused by the ringing. I'm in a corner now, and my doctor of my whole 26 years is retiring next week so I will have to start again explaining to another doctor and hope he gets it and actually helps me like my one did. Why does everything happen at once? I'm back to square one again.
