I've had noticeable tinnitus for about a year now and I would like to be blunt to help people who are suffering...
Congratulations you have nerve damage. You'll learn to cope with it, and eventually just see it as a part of everyday life. You might even forget you have tinnitus, but you shouldn't.
Your tinnitus will get better, but it can also get much worse quickly if you aren't careful. You have to take control of your environment as much as possible and limit your exposure to loud noise. Not only should you be aware of the decibel level but ALSO and just as important the DURATION. The slow blade penetrates the shield. Basically that means do not mask your tinnitus. Masking actually just aggravates the condition, its like fighting fire with fire. The best thing to do is to sit in a quiet room and wait until your ears normalise to the room.
I took acetaminophen and it helped tremendously in the early stages. Thank you all for your posts, they have all been helpful and insightful.
Best Wishes,
Dylan

Quite the pointless topic but thanks for the bluntness

Dylan,
You should be careful with using the words 'nerve damage' here. In most cases it is likely to be just a case of the normal functions of the nervous system having gone out of the normal balance somewhat. It is therefore just a case of re-balancing the nervous system. Not that this would be easy, but at least it should be possible in principle.
