It is both German and English (I am German, but I have been living in England for many years, so I decided to make my website bi-lingual)

Re: Singing and Tinnitus

Ivan,

I don't think that going swimming again would help, as the trapped fluid would be in the middle ear (behind the eardrum) not the (outer) ear canal (where your doctor would have discovered it already). It would actually not be water from the swimming pool (or the sea) but bodily fluids, and the problem has only become apparent due to the increased pressure during swimming (see these links for an explanation http://www.livestrong.com/article/46077 … -swimming/ , http://www.tinnitus.org.uk/glue-ear ).

If there is indeed a fluid buildup in the middle ear, the last resort to drain it would be surgery (as mentioned in the articles). Just drugs won't help to drain it but at best improve the symptoms ( http://ent.about.com/od/pediatricentdis … e_Ears.htm ).

So you should really get a reliable diagnosis first, whether there is fluid in your ear or not. I would recommend seeing, if possible, more than 1 doctor to make sure there is no wrong diagnosis.

Re: Singing and Tinnitus

Hi Thomas,
i have been given the corthicoid plus vase dilating medicine, the first days was very effective, then doctor reduced it to half the medicine, but the "roaring" (very much like the sound and sensation in the ear of when you yawn) has come back. My ear drum according to the doctor is in perfect shape and he sees no infection in my ear.
Does it sound yet like a tinitus or do you still think it is just water trapped? I feel the sound specially when y swallow saliva or burp (not on purpuse). I am thinking about trying the vinagre and alcohol solution option, to get the water out of my ear. I have read there are also ear drops to get water out, do you know?
Please forgive me if i bored you down, but your help is very much appreciated.

Hi Ivan,

There is no water in your outer ear canal. Otherwise your doctor would have seen it. There may actually be no be no fluid in your middle ear either (like I suggested above). What you are hearing is most likely an objective noise in your middle ear due to some nervous muscle spams (tensor tympany syndrome) See these links for more http://forums.webmd.com/3/cold-and-flu- … forum/2812 , http://forums.webmd.com/3/cold-and-flu- … forum/2812 (I can produce this rumbling by the way also at will by making a yawning movement). Ask your doctor what best to do about. Some muscle relaxants might help.
I had a similar problem last year when I could suddenly hear the blood flow in my ear. That disappeared immediately after I used some ear drops (I suppose because this calmed down the nervous spasms of the muscle in the inner ear when the ear drops reached the ear drum), so it could do no harm to try this as well before taking other measures.

Are you not getting any email notifications of replies? You should get them by default (unless you unticked the 'Subscribe to this topic' field when posting).

Re: Singing and Tinnitus

i mean what active ingredient had the eardrops you used. Because brands will vary from country to country but i can probably find a similar product.

Re: Singing and Tinnitus

I think I used Otex ear drops (they containing hydrogen peroxide; I normally use these against ear wax). But I reckon any other ear drops will do as well (I assume it worked in my case because the nervous twitching of the muscles in the middle ear stopped when the fluid came against the ear drum).
