hello everybody,
Ivan from Ecuador here, i play and sing in a rock band in my country and do this professionaly. I have just days ago been diagnosed tinnitus in my left ear, it happened after a swam in a hot water and then abused in playing piano with headphones at loud volume.
it is a drumming in my ear at low frequence and it is more often every time.
Question: i am protecting myself with earplugs when playing but i sing too, so is it bad or worse to sing when having tinnitus? Because ones voice sounds very loud with earplugs, like being in a vault. Please give me suggestions. I have to sing and play , it is my job.
cheers.

Hi Ivan,
Welcome to the forum.
There has actually been a (short) discussion on this topic in this forum a couple of years ago. See http://forum.mytinnitus.de/en/viewtopic.php?id=59 .
I am not sure whether ear plugs are good or bad for a singer here. You have to find out for yourself what is better for your tinnitus.

thanks Thomas,
and reading my explanation on my tinnitus, based on your experience, do you think it is actually a tinnitus, or could it be just a sore eardrumm and it will heal. Doctors here most of the time rush into a diagnosis.
thanks.

no, it is sporadic, moreless every half an hour and for about 10 seconds , low frecuence drumming , like when a cat purrs, but in my ear. Nothing to do with my pulse

Are you sure it was induced by the piano playing? It would be quite an unusual tinnitus for a noise induced one. It could be just some nervous reflex in your ear. In any case, I always recommend taking a few painkillers (Paracetamol or Aspirin) for a day or two to suppress any nervous over-activity, especially in the early phase.

hi Thomas, at the beginning it really seemed to be just water retained in the ear after swimming (i swam that day). But it wouldnt go away and it is stronger as last night i couldnt sleep very well. It sounds like a low frequency popcorn popping in a closed pot, and it hums. It is very moreless 30 minutes and it lasts about a minute. yesterday a went to a physician and he said it is caused by the piano loud playing with headphones. He says there is no infection or anything he could see, he sent me antibiotics and corticoids. What do you think? Has anyone else experienced a similiar tinnitus in this forum?

Why does your doctor prescribe you antibiotics if he doesn't think there is an infection? This would seem very strange.
I have not heard of anybody having similar symptoms, and as I said, I doubt it was caused by the piano playing. It is more likely due to trapped water. Do you have still have some fullness in your ears or any other indication that water might be trapped?

well it sounds like something ive felt after swimming other times. But this time it persisted, i have tried to expell the possible water retained but with no success. The medication the doctor gave me is working i guess because the intervals between tinitus is longer. Maybe the corticoids are working? anyways monday i will see the doctor again and will ask what to do in case of retained water. Thanks a lot for for your help. Is this website german? ich spreche deutsch, ich habe es in der schule studiert.

hi Thomas
i have been reading forums and one of the types of tinnitus is roaring tinnitus, i wonder if that is the kind i heard in my ear. Mine it starts and it is very uneven, it really feels like water trying to get out. i talked to a swimmer friend of mine and she told me that that happened to her and all she could do to get it out is to swim again and the water got out. What do you think?
