New Here

I'm 43 years old and I've tinnitus since I was about 16. I got it from pretending to be the second coming of Jimi Hendrix in a garage band. Up until about a year ago, the T didn't really bother me all that much. At a wedding last March, the band played loud and I had no ear plugs. Since that night my T has gone from a whisper to a srcream. I've tryed different diets, no coffee for a few months, no salt for a while, herbal supplements, etc...even xannax. Nothing has really worked. The only thing that helps my sanity is ear maskers (white noise generators worn like a hearing aid). I can live with the T. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on lowering the high high pitch. My T is very high. It sounds to me like the human ear should not be able to hear such a pitch. Thanks...

Re: New Here

Hi John,

Welcome to the forum.

As already mentioned elsewhere in this forum and on my Home Page, in the early phase, the occasional painkiller (Paracetamol or Aspirin) has significantly changed and reduced my tinnitus from an initially very loud and high pitched noise to a more gentle hissing one. A couple of other people have also reported this to me, and you might want to give it a try as well.
It has to said though that this is only likely to work if you have not taken any caffeine and maybe also alcohol for a few weeks already. Otherwise the stimulating effect of the latter might prevent the calming effect of the painkillers.
Later on, alcohol-free beer has also usually worked very well for calming the tinnitus down.
