Hi all,firstly i am glad to have found a forum,and i am hoping some one can help me...although i have this high pitched noise,at times changing tones,for about 5 days its already driving me crazy.
At the moment its relatively bearable but affecting my sleep,and i have to keep busy,bu even watching tv masks it.....i had problems with ears about 6 months ago,catching a cold abroad,i flew home but could not pop my ears and was under alot of stress,i suffer from anxiety and have panic attacks,it took weeks to get a little better but ears were never normal,subject to pressure changes even if i only travel a few a hundred feet higher then where i stay..driving through hills or high ground seem to block my ears.
I was given spray for congestion which i have been using,and also ear drops,but then out of the blue i started getting a ringing/high frequency tone ,it seem to come and go,i thought nothing of it,then it just would nt go away.......the more i read the more down i am feeling,and feel i cannot cope with another problem..i am 51 yrs old,have had 2 new hips,suffer from acid etc so a walking medicine man......please help

Welcome to the forum.
First of all, there is no need to panic. The ear noises may be a nuisance right now, but they are merely a lastly harmless nervous condition. In your case the underlying cause may be your pressure equalization problems, but it could have been triggered by the congestion spray (which for me aggravated the condition as well in the beginning). So I would stop using this nasal spray for a few days so see whether it improves through this. You should also avoid any caffeine and alcohol for the time being. If it still persists, you could try whether taking a few painkillers (Paracetamol or Aspirin) for a couple of days can help (this has worked for me and some others on this forum as well).

Hi Thomas.
firstly keep up the good work,and yes i have stopped the spray,i have cut down on tea/coffee to a cup a day and i dont drink,and i have started taking some mild pain killers as you suggested.
I will let you know and also will be seeing a ENT doctor,about equalization problem.Thanks again.

Even one cup of tea or coffee a day may be one cup too many at the moment, as the caffeine could counteract any nerve calming measures you are taking. I would only drink decaffeinated ones for the time being.

OK thanks, herbal tea's it is from now on....caffeine free.

It doesn't have to be herbal tea. You can also get decaffeinated versions of normal teas (like PG-Tips, Tetley's etc.). Likewise for coffee. They are not too bad nowadays. After a couple of weeks you can hardly tell the difference anymore. I still drink normally only decaffeinated versions, even though the caffeine does not have much effect on my tinnitus anymore (which is now hardly noticeable anymore anyway), but I generally feel better and more balanced if I don't use these nerve stimulants regularly anymore.

ok thanks,the tinnitus went away yesterday,but i still nervous it may come back,and i could not sleep,all night the worry was it would be back,and sure enough when i woke up,i could hear it in the background,or is that me just thinking its there,i think the whole emotional process is effecting me too..i hate going into a silent place just in case its there.....is this all in my mind......thanks for the continuing help

Just a general question,my ringing so to speak,at times appears to be away,and other times just in the back ground and i have to listen hard,but it always seems more prominent when i go to sleep and early morning...i thought it had gone,but its still there in the background...

Since tinnitus is a nervous condition, it is affected by your hormone levels, and these generally change during the day/night cycle. Also of course, when you are in bed it is a lot more quiet than at other times, so you'll notice it more. This is nothing to worry about. The less you think about it the quieter it will be. Panicking and getting obsessed about it will only make it worse. Just try to apply some simple measures at the moment (like avoiding certain things as mentioned before) but otherwise try to forget about it as far as possible.

Yes,i guess at night i am most nervous,i guess thinking its going to be quiet and afraid that the sounds will be back...the only thing i did different was i had some 1 20mg propopanel tablet,to get calm but it may have made the tinnitus worse...thanks for getting back so quickly..i am trying the best i can but am of very nervous disapostion so easily think of the worse....and i gues i am lucky in that others are much worse off and coping..
