Wondering if any of you have tried any of these drugs to help with your Tinnitus? Tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline, desipramine, imipramine and trimipramine.
The druggist at my local drug store told me to talk to my doctor about desipramine, since I've had chronic pain for over 6 months. He stated that chronic pain causes nerves to become over sensitive and can cause tinnitus. He said this drug will help calm down the nerves and may help with the tinnitus.
Thanks

Hi Tony,
Tinnitus can be badly aggravated by depression and anxiety, so in some cases antidepressants can improve things here as they reduce the anxiety. But generally speaking, you should really only take antidepressants if you are severely depressed and there are no other options. The risk of the side effects otherwise would just be too great, and you would only get on a slippery slope here. Also, antidepressants can actually cause tinnitus (see for instance this post or do a corresponding Google search) .
