My Tinnitus - question for Thomas

Hi

It started in 2005 when I had a Meniere's attack and the roaring tinnitus started. Right now, I am on the following drugs on a daily basis:

a) Beta Serc
b) Tebonin
c) B12
d) Lexotan ( for anxiety attacks)

My ENT just passed me a nasal spray due to some inner ear infection. Does this really cause tinnitus to worsen?

Thomas, I just made a set of custom hearing pieces from http://www.kind.com/de/ for TRT purposes. Apparently , Kind is a German company - are they effective as advertised ?

I find that I get "tightness around the head" when the tinnitus gets really loud. I am tempted to try the paracetamol approach -Would regular Panadol ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panadol )  ? if so, how long should I take it for ?

Also, giving up music is hard. I wonder if there's a difference between in-ear headphones vs those with ear muffs ? Thanks

Regards,

Charmaine , Singapore .

Re: My Tinnitus - question for Thomas

Hi Charmaine,

Welcome to the forum.

The nasal spray does not necessarily worsen the tinnitus, but it did for me in the early stages. I only mentioned this on my website as a potential hint in case you have some unexplained worsening of your condition.

Painkillers (Paracetamol or Aspirin) have always worked for me to suppress the tinnitus. Panadol is just a different name for Paracetamol, so there should not be any difference. I would suggest you take 2 tablets a day for 2-3 days. This should already make a difference if it works at all for you, and taking it for longer doesn't make any difference in my experience. I am a little bit sceptical though because of all the other drugs you are taking, as these could interfere with the tinnitus suppressing effect of the painkillers. So if these are not working, you might want to try it later again when you don't take all the other drugs anymore.

I strongly advise against in-ear headphones as these prevent full pressure equalization of the ear. Use an open headset like the 'Sennheiser PX100' instead. Even here you should be careful and not use them for too long at a time. Listen to music over loudspeaker whenever you can.

As for the hearing aids, I can unfortunately not comment on this as I don't have any experience with them.

Thomas,

Does your tinnitus bring about other symptoms such as neck pains or migraines etc ? How's your balance? Thanks

I have discussed this already before in some detail in this forum. See the post http://forum.mytinnitus.de/en/viewtopic … d=140#p140 (and posts below that).

No, not in my case. I know however of others who have (or had) these symptoms to some degree. If you have been diagnosed with Menieres, then this is probably what one would expect. But these symptoms can also occur with 'normal' tinnitus apparently (which however is not so surprising, as this is a nervous condition. and with the nervous system being very complex, it may not restrict itself to the ear-ringing alone).

Charmaine,

How much Paracetamol did you take then? With just two tablets since yesterday, it is unlikely that it would have caused this reaction. In any case, you should better stop taking them and inform your doctor about it as soon as possible. Maybe you have got other health issues you are not aware of.

Hi,

Could be .... I know that I suffer from pain in back as well - seeing a chiropractor on Monday ... hoping that would do the trick.... have you heard from folks who managed to get "adjusted" and that fixed their tinnitus ? Thanks ...
