Cerbomed - Nemos

Hi, I'm 55 and from Denmark and got my tinnitus back in year 2000 after a prolonged very stressful period. After a while I learned to live with it and I never paid attention to the pitch tone and eventually it became so weak, that I only noticed the sound when somebody asked me about my tinnitus. But after a recent prolonged period with stress and too much work I really felt run down - having a cold on/off for months and I got a painful mouse arm/fingers from extensive pc/lap top work and I drank ½ liter of red vine every evening just to calm down. 2 weeks ago my tinnitus  dramatically increased and is now very loud. I do hope that I again can manage to ignore it and that it will lower again over time. In my search on the internet I saw some advertisement from a German company named Cerbomed (www.cerbomed.com). They claim to be ready soon with a small devise which will stimulate nerves around the ears and - as I understand it - play your tinnitus tone by earphones - and hence cure your tinnitus. Sounds great, but does anybody know of this? Is it serious or just another scam? I e-mailed them but haven't yet received a reply.... Also I saw some work carried out by Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster, Germany, (http://campus.uni-muenster.de/2797.html), where researchers wish to treat tinnitus suffers with tailor made music excluding the frequency of the patients tinnitus. Wonder if anybody know more about this? And thank you Thomas for your excellent initiative with this site!!

Re: Cerbomed - Nemos

Hi sensei.

Welcome to the forum.

First of all, I have moved your entry from the 'Adverts' -forum into the regular 'Tinnitus Forum', since it does not really promote a particular product or therapy.

Similar therapies and devices have actually been addressed before in this forum. Just do a search here for instance 'music therapy' and 'neurostimulator' (if you can't read German, click the 'Translate this page' button at the top or bottom of the page.). The Neurostimulator therapy ( http://www.anm-medical.com/ ) is actually already available in Germany at various ENT-specialists (list provided on the website), but a) you need regular ENT appointments for this (to keep the device adjusted), and b) it is very expensive.

Anyway, all these kind of methods only claim to be able to improve the condition, not to cure it. And in many cases it will probably improve on its own by a similar degree in the long term.

For the time being, have you tried to take some painkillers (Paracetamol or Aspirin) for a couple of days? It always helped me to calm the tinnitus down again when it had worsened in periods of stress.

Re: Cerbomed - Nemos

Cerbomed are currently conducting trials specifically aimed at alleviating tinnitus by vagus nerve stimulation. To be completed in july this year (2012). Hopeful!
