I was looking at Neuromonics as tool to help me cope with my tinnitus.
I read the cost is high, but so is my sanity. Also I read it is similar to TRT but with faster results.
Has anyone tried this type of program?

Tony,
There have been a lot of new sound- and music therapy programs and devices advertised in the last few years, but I have yet to hear from somebody that it would have provided more than some temporary relief.
The Neuromonics program lasts at least 6 months according to their website (I have heard even of people who have done it for a few months longer). Over such a long period the tinnitus will already improve by itself in many cases, so it would be difficult to prove the effectiveness of such a long-term program.

Hi Thomas,
Admittedly, it's always been frustrating to be a Tinnitus sufferer. Many people advertise "cures" when clearly, there is no cure. Furthermore, many of the treatments don't work.
It's important to have scientific evidence backing a particular treatment modality. More specifically, what is needed are controlled experiments indicating that an experimental group (who received a particular therapy) saw a reduction in Tinnitus volume greater than a placebo group (who received a sham version of the therapy).
Promising avenues of research include Notched Music and Notched White Noise, which provide sound stimulation at all frequencies EXCEPT for the tinnitus frequency. Over time, via lateral inhibition, the tinnitus neurons causing the tone are suppressed, and your Tinnitus volume diminishes.
I'm from a firm called AudioNotch, which provides Notched White Noise and Notched Music. We're completely unaffiliated with the academic researchers who discovered both of these related treatments independently (they appear to work via the same mechanism).

I'm seeing a Doctor of audiology in a few weeks, at the Canadian Hearing Society. They'll be looking into the cause of my tinnitus and then try to work out a treatment plan. I let you know how it goes.
