I have been prescribe with Esertia for Anxiety and tension headaches. Am already taking it for a month But got the feeling they make my T worse or stopping for going away. Because I first got T after taking amytriptiline for a month for tension headaches. And now i am on this new medication SSRIs and the T still here.. The reason of the antidepressants am taking is cuz i have lots of tension i my neck head and face apparently due to stress and anxiety. Is anybody here also having lots of tension and getting better with Serotonin antidepressants? My DR says when the tension goes also should the T. But am worried what can cured me can also harm me as all this products are toxic and the ears don't like nothing toxic. I don't have any hearing loss MRI and CT scan are fine. My ENT and Audiologist said that there is nothing wrong with me but I can hear EEEEEEEEE already for two months on my left ear. And I think is a somatic Tinnitus as every time i move my neck open my mouth or press any part of my face specially my nose the T gets louder. Any tips please??? Am off to the gym to work out as much as i can and sleeping as much as i can but the tension still there.

Hi JQ,
Welcome to the forum.
I know quite a few people for whom antidepressants have helped against tinnitus, and studies have confirmed this as well (see for instance http://www.arabmedmag.com/issue-30-11-2 … main01.htm ).
However, this applies apparently only to people who had tinnitus already before they started to use the anti-depressants. In your case, if I understand you correctly, it was on the contrary the antidepressant that caused the tinnitus in the first place. Even though this occurs only in a minority of cases, it is not exactly unusual, as many drugs can potentially cause tinnitus if taken in high dosages or for longer periods, also SSRIs (see http://www.lareb.nl/documents/kwb_2005_4_ssri.pdf ). But you wouldn't really expect the tinnitus to disappear again by taking even more. So the only solution I can see for you here is to stop taking them. Ask your doctor for an alternative muscle relaxant with fewer side effects, or maybe even just massages to relieve your tensions.

Thank you so much Thomas. I will have a word with my DR ASAP about the medication. Cuz I am certainly sure My T came as a side effect from Amitryptiline. I found your forum very helpful. You are doing a great job here.

Hi JQ,
it's been a while since you last posted here. I am cursed with TT for half a year now. I believe that it was caused by taking a low dose of an antidepressant/SSRI (for only 5-6 days) as well.
I am wondering:
How are you doing today? How are you dealing with this condition after 2 years? Has the symptom subsided over time, or have you managed to habituate to it? Did you continue with medications or did you stop after tinnitus occured?
Literature and experts insist that tinnitus is a symptom and not a disease. Since doctors have checked me up and didnt find anything physically wrong with me, I believe that the only plausible explanation is that, in my case, it is either brain damage from the SSRI or a psychosomatic disorder. 6 months into it, although I am trying to work and live a normal life, I must confess, I still feel depressed and anxious over it.
So I ve been contemplating to give it another go with antidepressants, hoping that by resolving my anxiety and depressive mood the symptom might dissolve itself, or at least habituation can occur easier by minimizing my emotional reaction to "hearing the noise". As you understand, it is a great dilemma. On the one hand I find my current state of mind unbearable for managing to truly cope... on the other hand, the worst case scenario is my tinnitus getting even worse than it already is... can you give me your thoughts on that, judging from your own experience? I would be very grateful.
I hope you read this and find the time to answer.
Best regards,
m
