I still get this from time to time, I thought it had resolved but i still wake up with a 'hearing loss' / full sensation in the right ear which after a few hours disappears.
What is going on?
And actually my right ear was better at hearing overall than the left in the hearing test.

I get occasionally also some slight pressure feeling in my ears at times when my tinnitus is quieter than usual. This suggests to me that the tinnitus noise just compensates for some apparent pressure imbalance which is still there. If the tinnitus goes back to the usual level, the pressure feeling disappears again.
Generally speaking, all the components of the hearing system are somehow connected to each other, so if an imbalance in one part appears, all perceptions associated with the hearing system might be affected (which also explains that one often has hyperacusis together with tinnitus).

''some apparent pressure imbalance ''
what do you mean by this?
''so if an imbalance in one part appears, all perceptions associated with the hearing system might be affected ''
but the sensation i refer to is a physical one similar to when one goes on a plane and you get that blocked feeling WHICH IN TURN afects our hearing whereas hyperacusis/tinnitus is more brain related.
so i wouldnt expect it to be related to the brain. i was thinking maybe the tensor tympani muscle.

I would think that in this case the 'ear fullness' is also just an apparent sensation like the tinnitus and hyperacusis.

My ENT informed me that TMJD could be the cause of ear fullness even though you'll pass any TMJ test. In other words if you bite down on your teeth during the day or sleep you can add stress to the muscles in around the ears. This will cause temp ear fullness now and then. Best thing is to wear a mouth guard during sleeping hours and/or times of added stress.
