Hyperacusis

This is the other part of my problem which is equally disabling.

But it hasn't improved much over the last couple months.

I have read that the treatment is white noise however i haven't read about any cases of hyperacusis just vanishing by itself. So I am not sure what to do. OBviously the longer i put off 'treatment' the longer it will be before i can lead a normal life but like you, Thomas, I do not like the idea of using white noise for such extended periods of time.

It has slightly improved on its own but it is still at the level where most people cannot understand  how rustling paper can cause discomfort. That is quite severe in my opinion, and places like shopping malls are way too loud.

Re: Hyperacusis

I think the hyperacusis is largely due to the vastly increased awareness you are having now regarding sounds in general. Once this attention gets somewhat less, it should disappear again.

Re: Hyperacusis

what would happen if i just try to ignore my sensitivity and keep on exposing myself to the sounds i cant tolerate?

i would imagine it would get worse. Would it?

Re: Hyperacusis

No, you shouldn't ignore your sensitivity. At least I wouldn't recommend it. On the other hand, it is not really recommended (and not possible anyway) to completely shut yourself off from everything. Just try to avoid the most irritating noise sources in some way.
