How about Ginkgo Biloba extract?

Thanks friends for helping each other. Mine started almost a month ago. I am 62 and taking Thomas' suggestions seriously. Do you think a daily 40mg dose of Ginkgo Biloba extract help? Many, many thanks. Vic

Re: How about Ginkgo Biloba extract?

Hi Vic,

Welcome to the forum.

I took Ginkgo Biloba a couple of years ago for a different reason, and found that it improved the tinnitus noticeably as long as I took them. I took 1 x 100mg tablet a day (in the morning) (60:1 extract, corresponding to 6000 mg Ginkgo). Other people report however no effect or even adverse ones. So you just have to try whether it helps you (and the dosage may be crucial here; 40 mg a day may not be enough).
The drawback with Ginkgo is that it may cause you a feeling of restlessness.

Anyway, as I said, the improvement was not permanent, and the tinnitus returned to its old strength after I stopped taking Ginkgo. With regard to a permanent improvement, the occasional painkiller (Paracetamol, Aspirin) has been more successful for me.

The occasional alcohol-free beer has also helped me to calm down the tinnitus in 'bad phases'.

Re: How about Ginkgo Biloba extract?

Quietus is a highly advertised medication which, I understand guarantees quieting down the noise, but I do not think it is a cure. And it is very expensive too, as you say about medication (approx USD 100 for a month's supply........). Has anybody ever tried and benefited from it? Vic

Re: How about Ginkgo Biloba extract?

Hi Vic,

I hope you are OK.

The noise caused by the shower can sometimes cause problems for some people in form of an temporarily aggravated tinnitus. In this case, just use a less powerful shower that makes less noise, or wear ear plugs.

Swimming under water could cause problems due to the water pressure, but probably only if you dive a couple of meters deep.
