Hi,
I am new to this - woke up with hearing loss on Wednesday 20th Jan, and though the Doc cleared the ears out and checked everything, the noise went on. Damn! Forgot to ask if I can safely take these ears up in the air. (holiday flight)
Now my question: Does flying affect T ?
We fly to Turkey this Friday morning: please answer asap.
Thanks - and thanks for a wonderfully helpful site!

Hi Sue,
Welcome to the forum.
I can not speak out of my own experience regarding flying with tinnitus, but generally it is not considered as risky. At least I have not heard of anybody where it would have caused problems.
If you feel nervous about the aircraft noise, you can use earplugs, but normally this should not really be necessary (you should use earplugs only in mid-air though in order not to prevent pressure equalization during the starting and landing phase).

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the reply and the reassurance.
As it's take-off and landing that are usually unpleasant anyway, they are what I am worried about.
Question: have you heard of "earplanes"?
(read on a US site) and if so, what do you think of them?

Sue,
Yes, earplanes should be OK. They are sold in Europe as well. Just Google for them. I reckon they will be selling them even at the airport.
I think actually that normal earplugs should be OK as well, even at the start and landing phase. They may just not control the pressure equalization quite as well.

"Earplanes" feedback
The product I got from my local pharmacy in Germany were named "Sanohra fly" and were very recommendable. Easy to fit, they dampened sound and left my ears drumming away no louder than before the assault. Used on both flights there and back, journeys of rapid descent over mountain passes also, and for the first time ever I felt NO discomfort at all under the pressure.

Hi: I am new to this forum. I have had tinnitus for 2 years from high frequency hearing loss(nerve damage) per my ENT. T is louder now and anxiety and panic is back. The only thing that calms it down is 2 or 3 beers. My question is if beer calms down this hissing nuisance, would Neurontin or Lyrica be worth a try? Do they work to calm the nerves like the beer is? Has anyone tried either drug with any success?
