Tinnitus

I have had Tinnitus since I was 17-18 years old. I always thought the cause of my tinnitus was going to the same disco every weekend for 6 weeks, then all of a sudden the noise/ringing was there and drove me and my parents crazy. Now I'm not so sure about that. My ENT suggests it could  be hereditary. I'm not sure if that is right either.

But for most of that time my tinnitus could barely be heard but now it's almost the only thing I can hear. On top of that I have the sensitivity everyone has been talking about in here.

After searching around on Google, I find the sound therapy for tinnitus a good option. But I would like more information about it and someone to point me in the right direction as to what can be used for sound therapy. I have heard Relaxation CD's are good, those that have nature sounds in them like  waterfalls, thunderstorms etc.

Can anyone tell me what they have used and what results they have had.

Re: Tinnitus

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, some people find background noises beneficial.
There are two good free sound programs I am aware of, Atmosphere and Aire Freshener (both contain mostly natural sound backgrounds).
You can just run these on your computer, but also cut a CD or MP3 file from it if you want (although for the latter program you would need some additional software to do that).
