Hello there,
I have always had tinnitus and it has always been horrible as I have extreme sensory sensitivity to light, sound and movement. I would only notice my tinnitus in the past when there were no other sounds. In fact I only recently found out there was such a thing as tinnitus I thought the noise referred to the phrase "the sound of silence" and you were supposed to hear a noise when it was quiet .
Over the past year it has got much louder and is there all the time. When it is quiet the noise is very loud and and builds up causing a lot of pain and my vision to blur. I get no more than 3 hours of sleep a night and it is driving me crazy. Is there anyhting I can do or am I just stuck with this forever?

Hi yadda,
Welcome to the forum.
Having extreme sensory sensitivity is not uncommon for tinnitus sufferers (at least as far as the hearing is concerned). This points to the fact that these are all different symptoms of the same nervous disposition. Did you ever have medical treatment for this, or at least seen a neurologist? I would suggest that some holistic approach to restore the nervous balance would be most appropriate here.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for replying. I have not seen a doctor about this yet but I probably will do soon. When you say a holistsic approach to this would be most appropiate what do you mean? Thanks.

With 'holistic' I mean that one should care both about the physical as well as the mental/emotional side of the problem. So it is not only about medication and nutrition, but also for instance about relaxation, and generally a more positive attitude towards life.
This applies actually to most illnesses, but in particular to nervous dispositions like tinnitus or other sensory symptoms.
And in your specific case, I also mean that you should not see the tinnitus separate from the other sensory problems you are having. As I said already, they are likely to be just different symptoms of the same nervous disposition.

Seeing a doctor is definitely the first step into the right direction!
Good luck!

Well, as far as tinnitus is concerned, the measures suggested by doctors are often rather a step in the wrong direction, as for many people (including me) it leads to a worsening of the tinnitus (of course, in a sense one can say that this helps to find the right direction, but this holds obviously for any bad experience).
By all means, one should of course consult a doctor in the beginning to rule out any obvious underlying physiological damage or illnesses that should be treated as such (and in this case, a neurologist could probably find some common cause for yadda's symptoms), but otherwise doctors are more or less helpless when it comes to tinnitus, so some kind of self-help is for most people the only realistic option here.

Hello,
I practiced yoga and it simply vanished. It started on 1st of march 2009 and completely ended on 22nd March. I am back to normal in 22 days.
