Hi everybody!
My name is Anders. I come from Sweden where I and two friends have a tinnitusforum since four years. This forum has become big. We have over 1200 members and over one million visits since start. The URL is www.tinnituswebben.se
I myself have severe tinnitus with a soundlevel of aproximatly 90 decibel.
To my question. Now and then there show up discussion about laser at our forum. I have not found any proof that laser should help. Lately we had a discussion about Dr. Wilden in Germany and his method. Anybody here ho knows something about Dr Wilden. Anybody who have been a patient in his Laser Therapy. If yes, have you been helped?
All comments are welcome.
Kind Regards
Anders

Hi Anders,
Welcome to the forum.
There is no proof that laser therapy works (although this can be said of course for many tinnitus 'therapies'). A few studies in the past came actually to the conclusion that it is ineffective. Proponents of the laser therapy claim that these studies have been conducted with much lower laser intensities than Dr. Wilden is using now, but the point is that Dr. Wilden was already claiming success when he himself was still using lower intensities. So everybody can draw his own conclusions here.
In any case, the laser therapy is controversial and not many people appeared to have tried it. Of the hundreds of people I personally had contact with over the last few years, only 3 have done the laser therapy: for one it didn't make any difference at all, and for the other two it even seemed to worsen the condition. I have read a few positive reports in a couple of other forums, but a) one can't be sure who placed these there, and b) there is of course always the possibility of a 'placebo' effect (i.e. a psychologically caused improvement).
Also, the treatment is rather expensive (about 150 Euro for a 30 min treatment of each ear; with a recommended daily treatment for about two weeks, this would amount to about 2000 Euro).
In any case, I think that relatively short 'therapies' are not really adequate to provide any lasting improvement here. The latter is only possible if one conducts his own long term measures, like for instance avoiding caffeine, alcohol and stress (and other things that stimulate the nervous system). These measures alone will in most cases already bring an improvement.
Otherwise, I just would like to mention again that the occasional painkiller (Paracetamol or Aspirin) has helped me personally a lot to control and improve the condition (especially in the early phase when my tinnitus was still very bad). Alcohol-free beer has also worked well for me in the later stages. But all this only really worked after I had avoided caffeine and alcohol for several weeks already.
So I did not have to turn to any of the advertised therapies or remedies at all, as I managed to find my own way to deal with and improve the condition.
