Hi everybody!
My name is Anders. I come from Sweden where I and two friends have a tinnitusforum since four years. This forum has become big. We have over 1200 members and over one million visits since start. The URL is www.tinnituswebben.se
I myself have severe tinnitus with a soundlevel of aproximatly 90 decibel.
To my question. Now and then there show up discussion about laser at our forum. I have not found any proof that laser should help. Lately we had a discussion about Dr. Wilden in Germany and his method. Anybody here ho knows something about Dr Wilden. Anybody who have been a patient in his Laser Therapy. If yes, have you been helped?
All comments are welcome.
Kind Regards
Anders

Hi Anders,
Welcome to the forum.
There is no proof that laser therapy works (although this can be said of course for many tinnitus 'therapies'). A few studies in the past came actually to the conclusion that it is ineffective. Proponents of the laser therapy claim that these studies have been conducted with much lower laser intensities than Dr. Wilden is using now, but the point is that Dr. Wilden was already claiming success when he himself was still using lower intensities. So everybody can draw his own conclusions here.
In any case, the laser therapy is controversial and not many people appeared to have tried it. Of the hundreds of people I personally had contact with over the last few years, only 3 have done the laser therapy: for one it didn't make any difference at all, and for the other two it even seemed to worsen the condition. I have read a few positive reports in a couple of other forums, but a) one can't be sure who placed these there, and b) there is of course always the possibility of a 'placebo' effect (i.e. a psychologically caused improvement).
Also, the treatment is rather expensive (about 150 Euro for a 30 min treatment of each ear; with a recommended daily treatment for about two weeks, this would amount to about 2000 Euro).
In any case, I think that relatively short 'therapies' are not really adequate to provide any lasting improvement here. The latter is only possible if one conducts his own long term measures, like for instance avoiding caffeine, alcohol and stress (and other things that stimulate the nervous system). These measures alone will in most cases already bring an improvement.
Otherwise, I just would like to mention again that the occasional painkiller (Paracetamol or Aspirin) has helped me personally a lot to control and improve the condition (especially in the early phase when my tinnitus was still very bad). Alcohol-free beer has also worked well for me in the later stages. But all this only really worked after I had avoided caffeine and alcohol for several weeks already.
So I did not have to turn to any of the advertised therapies or remedies at all, as I managed to find my own way to deal with and improve the condition.

Hi Thomas!
Thank you very much for your answer. You comfirm my opinion about lasertherapy. It is not working.
In the Swedish forum the person who had lasertherapy wrote that Dr Wilden had had aproximatly 5000 patients and of them had 4000 been cured or at least had impact improvement.
It was very interseting toe hear the history, that Dr Wilden used low laser therapy in the beginning and that he had the same arguments then.
Once again
Thank You.

Hi Anders, thanks for adding your experience with coma to answer my post, but since I have diabetes too I wanted to ask You if You feel any difference in tinnitus(loudnees or pitch)when Your blood sugar level changes.I noticed when taking pills (Amaryl)to lower it down to7-8mmg my tinni gets louder and higher in frequency. When I keep my sugar at 11-12 which is way to high by any standards then my tinni is quieter. Please respond to my problem. With regards Peter.

Hello Peter!
Normally I keep my diabetes very stabil. I use insulin before every meel and insulin for long term effect every evening and every morning. This keeps my diabetes rather stabil.
OK, I have not noticed any connection between my blood sugar levels and my tinnitus. I have one sound in my head ( in both my ears so to say) and it is 90 db.
Probably is my diabetes from the beginning the cause of my tinnitus. High bloodpressure and high sugar levels (hard stress for many years) will destroy the function of the bloodvessels and that can cause lack of oxygen in te brain and in the hearingsystem. That is what happened to me. I made a Magnet Resonanse Camera examination and there they found that all my smallest bloodvessels in the brain had decreased funktion. The result was to little oxygen to the brain and to my hearing system.
Perhaps you must try to find out if the medicin you use give any sideeffects. Can you ask your MD or if you want you can send the namne of the substance to me I can i control it here. Not the namne of the pills but the content.
Hope you will be better soon. I had TRT and soundstimulation and it helped me a lot. Soundstimulation lasted for nearly 8000 hours.
Best regards
Anders
